IN-BETWEEN THE SKY AND THE SEA

Architect, Yasuhiro Yamashita (Atelier Tekuto and Amami Design firm) is a born and bred Amami local and was inspired by old Amamian houses Takakura and designed the resort buildings with traditional raised floor granaries with walls and roof lines shaped like Amamian conch-seashells Makigai. Traditional Oshima Tsumugi hand-woven pongee mud dyeing techniques were used on building material that were soaked in iron-rich mud giving the wood surface a deep gray colour.

NEST AT AMAMI BEACH VILLAS | Amami Oshima Resort

By combining local culture with modern Japanese concepts, the resort has retained the original landscape, showcasing the indigenous vegetation and ocean view. The surrounding sea and mountains with open sky and wind in the bay provides a sense of peace and serenity. With our guests’ comfort as the key mission, our services aim to create a “Nest at Amami” village atmosphere that reflects the island’s unique and friendly culture.
